Welcome to The North West Labrador Retriever Club

The North West Labrador Retriever Club was founded in 1966 and has since grown from strength to strength, to become a very successful club.

About the Club

The Club held its first ever show, a Limit show on May 13th 1967, followed by an Open show in September of that year with its first championship Show being held in 1972. Since then the Club has been running three Shows a year which are professionally run and well attended. In 1967 training classes were run at a local farm which charged 2/6 per dog, these proved very popular. Not only did the Club run Labrador events it also ran very successful social events starting with a “Hot pot supper and Film Show” (18th February 1967), since then the Club has regularly held social evenings including the Medieval banquet held this year to celebrate the Clubs 40th Anniversary year.

Since the Clubs first Annual General Meeting held on 10th January 1968 in Bolton the Club has run annual AGM’s which are always well attended and all members are welcome to come along and be involved. Since that meeting the Club has been recognised by the Kennel Club and the hard working committee have put on an extensive range of events including shows, seminars, field trials, training events, working tests and run an excellent Labrador rescue service.

The aims of the Club are:

  1. to encourage the breeding of pure Labrador Retrievers
  2. to conserve the best type of working dog
  3. to promote field trials
  4. to ensure qualified judges at shows and adequate classification being given
  5. to encourage the novice exhibitor

These aims of the Club are the same as they have been for the last forty years and are as relevant today as they were then.
